Juvenile Diversion

An alternative to juvenile court

The Northern Star Scouting Juvenile Diversion Program was established in 1996 to encourage and guide youth to become aware of their behavior and its impact on their community – and their future. Northern Star Scouting's Juvenile Diversion Program is an exemplary, evidence-based program that positively impacts both youth and the communities they live in.

The Juvenile Diversion Program is designed to help youth who have run into trouble with the law or may be at risk to do so. We provide a positive alternative to formal court proceedings for juvenile offenders.

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, the offense will be dismissed. However, should a youth not meet the requirements and not complete the program, they will be redirected back to the police department and the original charges will be prosecuted.

Additionally, parents and school officials are welcome to utilize our program ahead of involving law enforcement. Curfew violations, disorderly conduct, truancy, and poor choices regarding the use of social media are all behaviors that could warrant a parent or school referral to our program. Simply complete the Referral Form and our staff will confidentially begin the process of getting the youth involved in the appropriate program.
